Dear Colleague

Centenary Meeting and Celebration Ball November 10 - 12, 2010

The first meeting of our society was held on November 11th 1910 in Edinburgh. In celebration of our first 100 years we are planning a series of special events in Scotland’s historic capital.

The events will commence with a Civic Reception at the stunning Edinburgh City Chambers on the Royal Mile on the evening of Wednesday 10th November 2010 at 6.30 pm. We will be entertained by the Theresa Salon Orchestra which includes one of our members Peter Wardrop. Wine and canapés will be served.

The academic program promises to be an exceptional one. The meeting takes place over two days in the Symposium Hall at the Royal College of Surgeons. Professor Janet Wilson will give the Guthrie Lecture. Professor Richard Ramsden will give the Centenary Lecture. Among other notable speakers we are pleased to welcome Sir Professor Graeme Catto, formerly president of the General Medical Council, Mr Harry Burns, Scottish Chief Medical Officer, Mr David Soutar, plastic surgeon, Mr Martin Bailey, paediatric otolaryngologist, Sir Professor Graham Teasdale, Professor Arnold Maran and Professor George Browning in addition to a significant number of well respected otolaryngologists working throughout Scotland and beyond.

On the evening of Thursday November 11th 2010 we will hold a black tie ball in The Balmoral Hotel, Edinburgh. A champagne reception will commence at 7 pm and after dinner there will be a ceilidh dance. Tables will be for 10 people and details on table plans will be provided in due course.

The cost of the 2 day meeting is £200 (or £100 for one day). Ball tickets cost £50 each. The civic reception is free for delegates and one guest each. We would encourage you to book early as space for all events is limited.

We have booked accommodation at a reduced rate at Ten Hill Place (The Royal College of Surgeons Hotel) at a cost of £92 for a double room with breakfast and £82 for a single room with breakfast, phone 0131 662 2080 or email reservations. Please quote reference SOS101110.

We also have rooms reserved in The Balmoral Hotel at £180 for a double room with breakfast and £160 for a single room with breakfast. Please quote reference otola111110, tel 0870 460 7040 or email the Balmoral. Please note that this rate and these rooms are only reserved for us until the end of September. There is a huge variety of accommodation available in the city and alternative accommodation can be found on VisitScotland.

If you are interested in playing golf in association with this meeting than please contact Ray Kelleher.

We look forward to seeing you in Edinburgh.
