Board Of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery, Royal Australasian College of Surgeons

Training is under the auspices of the Board of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery (Board), RACS. In each region or country, supervisors of training are appointed at each OHNS accredited teaching hospital. These surgical supervisors are the representatives the Board's Training Sub-committees for that hospital rotation.

The Board is comprised of:

• Board Chairman & the Chairmen of the six Regional Training Sub-committees (RTS) - NSW, QLD, SA, VIC, WA, NZ;
  
• Presidents of the Australian (ASOHNS) & New Zealand (NZSOHNS) Societies of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery;
  
• OHNS Senior Examiner;
• RACS Elected Councillor, OHNS; &
  
• Trainee Representative.
  

The Board Chairman is responsible for certifying satisfactory completion of the five year training period before a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) can be awarded. The RTS Chairmen are responsible for giving approval for trainees to present for the Fellowship Examination.

Both the Board and the RTS Chairmen are responsible for the:

• Curriculum, content & duration of training & all related surgical education.
• Accreditation of advanced training programs.
• Selection & continuing registration of trainees.
• Provision of information to maintain a register of trainees.
• Assessment of satisfactory completion of training.
• Eligibility of trainees to present for the Fellowship Examination.
• Maintenance of surgical standards in each training post.
