Media Release: Smart Ear Fix Trial to begin at Fremantle Hospital

Closing the Gap' -- tissue engineered tympanic membranes.

 The University Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at The University of Western Australia is pleased to announce the first tissue engineered tympanic membranes for patients with chronic TM perforations. 

Utilising a simple technique described by Professor Shin-Ichi Kanemaru, 11 patients had their procedures performed by Professor Gunesh Rajan at Fremantle Hospital with success rates to be reported further at the Garnett Passe and Rodney Williams Memorial Foundation Frontiers meeting in July.
